The RG 146 Insurance Adviser course is designed for anyone wishing to provide advice in both Personal & General Insurance as covered under ASIC’s Tier I advice regulation and is ideal for existing Finance & Mortgage Brokers who wish to extend their product offering.

This course has been registered with and approved by ASIC as meeting the requirements of RG 146 (previously known as PS 146).

Course Outcomes

The RG 146 Insurance Adviser course will equip you with the specialist knowledge and technical skills to provide compliant advice to clients on a full range of Insurance including:

1.   Personal Insurance Products

  • Life insurance (death)
  • Total and Permanent Disablement insurance
  • Trauma insurance/Critical Illness
  • Income Protection/Salary Continuance

2.   Investment/Insurance Products

  • Insurance with Investment component e.g. Whole of Life policies
  • Risk minimisation strategies e.g. capital protection, hedging

3.   General Insurance to protect assets

  • Property e.g. Home, Motor Vehicle
  • People e.g. Health, Liability
  • Business & Commerce

This Program is aligned to the Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and will provide you with credit for 2 of the 4 Diploma modules - setting you well down the path to becoming a Financial Planner.

Pre-requisites

There are no prerequisites for entry to the RG 146 Insurance Adviser course, however having a background in the finance industry will be of benefit.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

This course based on the nature of the content, requires a high standard of Language, Literacy and Numeracy. If you have any doubts about whether your skills are sufficient to complete this course, please contact the Student Support Co-ordinator before enrolling.

Delivery Methods


Intellitrain offers 3 methods of delivery, enabling you to choose a method that suits your specific requirements in terms of preferred learning style and time availability.

1. Classroom Based 

This method consists of a total of 5 days of classroom training typically spread across 2 - 4 months. There are 2 modules, consisting of a 3 day workshop "Financial Planning Principles" then followed by a 2 day workshop "Insurance and Risk Management". Modules are run 4 - 6 weeks apart to ensure that you have sufficient time to complete assignments and absorb what you have learned during the workshop. These workshops are supported by monthly interactive web-based tutorial sessions which are recorded and available to be reviewed online anytime through our training portal iTrain plus telephone & email support.

2. Blended Delivery

This is a unique program offered only by Intellitrain and consists of a combination of self-paced study & preparation prior to attending a number of interactive pre-scheduled 2 hour web-based training sessions. The program is generally delivered over a 3-4 week period and consists of supporting web-based tutorials, telephone and email support. Each of the interactive web-based training sessions and tutorials are recorded and available online anytime through our training portal iTrain.

3.  Distance

This is the most flexible training option enabling you to work your way through each of the course modules at your own pace submitting assignments as you go. You are also provided with access to our monthly interactive web-based tutorials both live and as recordings online through our training portal iTrain.
